Caregivers and Kids Weekend
Caregivers and Kids Weekend (CKW) began in 2012 when the Founding Director of Camp HOPE America, Karianne Johansen, took San Diego and Imperial County campers and their parents/guardians on a fun-filled weekend at Camp Marston in Julian, California. CKW provides Camp HOPE America – California campers and their caregivers with the opportunity to bond over a “mini-camp” experience together. CKW most recently occurred in February 2017, when over 100 San Diego and Imperial families attended a weekend of camp at Pine Valley Bible Conference Center in Pine Valley, California. CKW is the highlight of the year for so many of our parents/guardians, counselors, and campers!
In 2017, Caregivers and Kids Weekend included a variety of outdoor activities including archery, horse shoes, gaga ball, basketball, inflatable obstacle courses, disk golf, and kickball. The weekend also included workshops for parents and guardians on trauma-informed parenting, the exchange of Character Trait Awards between parents/guardians and their children, a campfire filled with s’mores, and a campfire talk by Camp HOPE America founder Casey Gwinn.
It’s our vision to see every Camp HOPE America program across the country start a CKW!
